Posted: 15 Sep 2016 Do's and Don'ts when hiring a Car
Our top tips for hiring a car will make sure that you don't have a car-hire horror story.
Do these...
1. Think about your needs and what you’ll actually be doing
Are you heading off the beaten track or staying on the roads? Will you have lots of bags and travel companions or are you going solo? These are just some of the questions you should ask yourself when selecting the right car for your needs.
2. Terms and conditions do apply
Reading the small print will ensure you’ll always know where you stand when hiring a car and remember that you can’t ever challenge a clause because you didn’t know it was there.
3. Inspect the car you’re hiring before you get into the driving seat
Look everywhere for scratches and marks and report it in writing to avoid any unnecesarry charges on your bill when you return the vehicle.
Don’t do these...
1. The early bird catches the worm
Booking as early as possible will mean you’ll have a much greater selection of vehicles to choose from. You don’t want all the budget cars to be gone by the time you’re ready to book!
2. To fill up or not to fill up?
Each car hire company is different so just check beforehand if you must deliver the car back filled up with petrol or not.
3. Don’t let someone who hasn’t been approved by the car rental company drive the hire car
When hiring a car only the driver who has been approved by the car rental company must drive the vehicle. If you need to add an additional driver during your trip you must phone the car hire company.
4. Don’t panic if something goes wrong
Keep all your car hire company’s details at hand for if you break down or have an accident. Don’t panic, just phone them up and they will talk you through the steps of what to do next.
