Travel & Study Allowances for Individuals Travelling Abroad
ALLOWANCES
Per adult (over the age of 18): R1 000 000 (1 Million) per annum
Per child (under the age of 18): R200 000 per annum
FOREIGN CURRENCY
Foreign Currency may not be bought more than 60 days prior to travel.
Foreign Exchange may be transferred to abroad to a bank account in the traveller's name, but not to a 3rd party.
Foreign Currency may only be used for the purposes stated / declared when purchased.
Unused foreign exchange must be converted to Rand within 30 days of returning to South Africa
Proof of purchase of foreign exchange may be requested, so all slips should be retained
TRAVEL ALLOWANCE
The cost of land arrangements (hotels, cruises, tours, etc) form part of travel allowance, but local payment of airfares do not.
Travel allowance not spent on holiday expenditure may not be kept offshore
SOUTH AFRICAN CURRENCY
Each traveller may take R25000 in South African currency when travelling abroad
